Background
The Dixie Rhythm Kings were formed in 2002 to play and perpetuate traditional New Orleans Jazz, sometimes referred to as Dixieland. The band, a not-for-profit community service organization, originally confined their performances to local nursing homes and retirement centers. However, they have expanded their concert venues to include events such as the Senior Olympics and the Florissant City Fall Festival.
The Dixie Rhythm Kings present a lively, upbeat program of pop tunes and jazz standards from the Roaring 20's era. Their musical repertoire includes popular Roaring 20's favorites such as Sweet Georgia Brown as well as the music of the traditional jazz masters such as Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton.
